Holy Bible, Human Bible

Accepting the Bible as foundational for faith and witness is basic to the identity of Christians. The word ‘foundation’ suggests something solid and immovable, but this particular foundation is open, dynamic, lively and multi-vocal. Connecting the speaking of God, the concerns of the people who wrote it, and the concerns of people who read it today, the Bible is human as well as holy, and this raises questions about what the Bible is and how the words of God relate to the words of scripture.
